A Father's Love

 


This weekend was very monumental for us. On Father's Day weekend, we watched one of our daughter's marry her high school sweetheart. It was a beautiful wedding all throughout the day, but one moment brought tears to my eyes. I watched the father/daughter dance. It was a very emotional moment of seeing the love and pride in her father's eyes and the joy on her face. It brought to my mind our relationship with God. Zephaniah 3:17 NIV The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you,  but will rejoice over you with singing.” Some translations say, "He will dance over you with singing." I picture that moment with my husband and daughter. God's love for you is so great that He, your Heavenly Father, delights in you. He is not a God who is uninvolved or only planning wrath for you. He loves you so much that He rejoices when you spend time with Him, trusting that His arms are strong enough to keep you safe. On this Father's  Day, don't forget to remember the Father that loves you so much that He gave His one and only son, Jesus, that if you believe in Him, you will have everlasting life (John 3:16). It truly shows how a Father's love should look.

  Today, my daughter and I headed towards Little Rock for her neurologist appointment tomorrow. For the first time since she was in second grade, they are taking her off all seizure medication. This is quite the miracle. At sixteen years old, we were unsure what would happen after brain surgery. When the doctor mentioned she would need a section of her brain removed, the temptation to rant to God was great. My husband and I had dedicated our adult lives to ministry. My daughter loved the Lord. Why would He allow this to happen to her? If we lived only for this earth, there would be good reason to be angry; however, this world is not what we live for. God never promised perfection or comfort on earth. He promised that to be with us when it is hard and to never leave us or forsake us. Leaving a Lasting Impact

  This was a hard weekend. A dear lady who has attended our church for the seventeen years we have pastored died. We held her funeral on Saturday. When we moved to our church, our children were all very little. Both sets of grandparents lived hours away, and I felt very much on my own. This woman recognized the struggles and stepped in as designated grandma. She picked my girls up from school, baked cookies with them, and took them along on many of her family birthday parties. She became what they desperately needed. So much so, they made sure she was on the family row at high school graduation. She didn't do this with just my children. She saw every child that walked through the church door as a child worthy of love and her devotion. When faced with difficulty, she always had kind words to say, no matter how she was treated. After Brain Surgery

  On the 26th of June, my daughter celebrated 7 years past brain surgery when she had her left hippocampus and amygdala removed. Due to chronic and frequent seizures, we faced a decision no parents want to make. Do we let her continue on maximum medication that didn't work and see her eventually lose more and more brain function or have the surgery and lose part of her brain but possibly become seizure-free? We fully believed in God's ability to heal, but we also recognized that He showed His faithfulness in the storm, not just stopping the storm. So we prayed. For weeks, I prayed for wisdom and God's direction. When we met with her neurologist, my daughter stepped up and said she had peace about the surgery, so we proceeded. The neurosurgeon, who happened to move to our state from Boston just 2 years before, was highly skilled and had mastered the exact procedure that would be needed to help heal my daughter.
