After the Storm

I think most of America is familiar with the storms that rolled through the country. Unfortunately, several places were hit by tornados, so we need to hold up those devestated by the tornados in prayer. While the tornado warnings were going off in my area, my family performed our storm ritual that we've done since the kids were little. The only difference now was the size of my kids. My sons were visiting for dinner when the sirens sounded, so they were herded in my very narrow hallway. My oldest son is six foot eight inches tall. My other son is almost six foot, and my husband is six foot one inch tall. My son also had his very large boxer dog in the hallway. The first five minutes were fine, but as we kept scrolling back to the weather report, the time for taking shelter seemed to extend. That's when legs started cramping and knees hurt. We started to make a decision. Was safety more important than comfort? We chose comfort and spread a little further beyond the safety of the wall. If a tornado came, we would squish back together. We're thankful that the only result of the storm for us was tree branches across the yard and dust coating our cars. Here's my take on this. When we are in the storms of life, it's easy to say, "God, I choose comfort over the safety that you provide in the storm." When the disciples were in a boat as a storm appeared, they panicked. (Mark 4:35-41) Meanwhile, Jesus was asleep. Have you thought about the fact that Jesus had complete faith in God's protection? He was calm enough to sleep. Meanwhile, the disciples woke Jesus to ask Him to stop the storm. Although Jesus is capable of stopping the storm, which he did to comfort His disciples, He was also capable of protecting them in the storm. It is easier to beg God to stop our storms in life, but sometimes He wants you to trust Him to rely on His safety.

Have a great week high-heeled warriors!
