Clothed in What?

 

I attended a women's retreat this weekend. While there, there was a statement made that really challenged me. "When we don't put on the armor of God each day, we open ourselves up to the enemies attacks. Naked Christians (unarmored Christians) are not pleasant to look at."  I thought about the TV show, Naked and Afraid. People are dropped off in harsh conditions with no clothes and only their wits to survive. Due to lack of clothing, the harsh conditions create obstacles that cripple the contestants ability to function. God gave us the ability to protect ourselves from the harsh conditions of this world. We have the helmet of salvation to guard our minds from thoughts that intrude and cripple our walk with God- those thought that tell you that you'll never be good enough to earn God's love. We can never be good enough. We all fail, but my salvation reminds me that this is the point. Jesus came because we could never be good enough; however, with Christ, He makes me righteous. It defeats those negative thoughts of the enemy. The speaker this weekend made a great point. The belt of truth holds the armor together. The truth of God's Word holds my life together when all is falling apart. I may not know what tomorrow holds, but I know God's truth doesn't change. He is stable. That means I can stand on His Word. I won't go through all the armor, but I will remind you that unarmored Christians have opened the doors for attacks. Without the stability of God's Word and His protection of our minds, fear and anxiety can creep in and cripple our walk with God. We become spiritually naked and afraid. My challenge to you is to learn about the protection God has given you in the Bible (Ephesians 6:10-18). Get up every morning, clothing yourself in God's truth because a clothed Christian is a powerful Christian.

  On the 26th of June, my daughter celebrated 7 years past brain surgery when she had her left hippocampus and amygdala removed. Due to chronic and frequent seizures, we faced a decision no parents want to make. Do we let her continue on maximum medication that didn't work and see her eventually lose more and more brain function or have the surgery and lose part of her brain but possibly become seizure-free? Leaving a Lasting Impact

  This was a hard weekend. A dear lady who has attended our church for the seventeen years we have pastored died. We held her funeral on Saturday. When we moved to our church, our children were all very little. Both sets of grandparents lived hours away, and I felt very much on my own. This woman recognized the struggles and stepped in as designated grandma. She picked my girls up from school, baked cookies with them, and took them along on many of her family birthday parties. She became what they desperately needed. So much so, they made sure she was on the family row at high school graduation. She didn't do this with just my children. She saw every child that walked through the church door as a child worthy of love and her devotion. When faced with difficulty, she always had kind words to say, no matter how she was treated.   As we've finished up Pastor Appreciation Month, I wanted to say thank you to our amazing congregation. Being a pastor is hard, but a good congregation can make the pastor life worth it. Many congregations have honored pastors all over the country, but I want to give a shout out to all the pastor's families behind the scenes. They are the support team that aren't always noticed. Here's a few things that let you know you might be a pastor's family if... You might be a pastor's family if you're the first to arrive and the last to leave the church.
