Flirting With Danger

As I walked my dog at the back of our property, I noticed a plant growing in the corner- a Yucca plant. This plant takes me back to my childhood. My mother has never been a big gardener. I definitely inherited that trait from her. I think plants probably weep when they enter my home, knowing their fate. Because my mother struggled with growing things, she chose hardy plants that could survive almost anything with little attention. She created what I called, "the garden of death." Inside this round garden in the middle of her lawn was a set of rose bushes, several cactus plants, and two really large Yucca plants, all among a bed of decorative rocks. Although everything was beautiful and flowering, it was also thorny and sharp. My preteen brother had the wonderful idea to play daredevil and ride his Huffy bike and the circle of death. He started slow and began to pick up speed with each revolution.  When he reached maximal speed, he lost control and crashed directly in the pointy prison. We heard the screaming from all the way inside the house. My mother spent that evening removing thorns and doctoring scratches. My friends, when we decide to truly follow Jesus, He asks us to leave our pasts behind. That may be friends or acquaintances that do not follow the Lord, or it could be things that created distance between you and your walk with the Lord. Several disciples were asked by Jesus to leave their fishing net (their jobs and livelihoods) to follow Christ. Hod wanted their dependence on Him. It may be different for each person, but one thing remains the same. If it gets in the way of you serving the Lord, put God above it or stay away from it. If we continue to revolve around sin or obstacles, we will eventually crash. Instead of seeing how close we can circle sin, let's see how far we can stay away from it. After all, no one wants to deal with the pain of sin removal.

Have a great week high-heeled warriors!
