Dreams and Visions

 

Have you ever had a dream that felt like God was trying to tell you something? Maybe He is. We all have those crazy dreams that make no sense. Maybe you're being chased by a sandwich while trying to finish paperwork from your job that is slowly smothering you. Explanation: you shouldn't have eaten that sandwich too close to bedtime, and you're stressed about your job. In my office, the first thing we do every morning is talk about our crazy dreams and try to interpret what they may mean. Scientifically, when our brains are at rest, they still process our day  and feelings we suppress through dreams. However, this is also the time when we are most vulnerable and willing to listen to God. God often spoke in dreams and visions through the Old Testament. Joseph had a dream of his brothers bowing down before him. This dream did come to pass. God is still able to speak to us in dreams. In a former post, I spoke of my mother having a dream of an accident on the way to visit me in another state. She saw a helicopter and multiple rescue vehicles. This led her to leave ten minutes later for her trip the next day. At the exact point where her dream took place, there was a severe accident with rescue trucks and a helicopter. If she had not left ten minutes later, she would have been in the accident. When my children were small, I had decided to drive down to visit my parents. The day before leaving, a member of our congregation told me he had a dream of me having a flat tire. My husband was out of town, so he told me to call him if we needed anything. On the way back to our home, only 20 miles away, we hit a pothole that caused a blow-out at a very sharp curve. I called the congregation member who immediately helped us because he felt the dream was telling him to be ready to help. God still speaks in dreams.

Acts 2:17 ESV “‘And in the last days it shall be, God declares, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams.

So, yes, that dream may be a sandwich too close to bedtime, but it may also be God trying to get your attention. Ask God, "Are you trying to tell me something? I'm listening."
