A Really Cool Idea- Filling Our Field With Flowers

Image
We've had a lot of rain. The problem with this is that grass is growing astronomically. Not a problem if you're mowing a small lawn. It's a huge issue if you are cutting a multiple acre field with a mower. My son cut our church grass one morning. Five hours later, he had produced a beautifully cut field and a horrible sun burn. In order to reduce the long cutting hours, we came up with a plan. We work with a program that provides commodities to the local community. One of those was vegetable and flower seeds. We have our thousands of packets, but still had leftovers. On Wednesday, we had the idea to have our young adult/youth group scatter seeds through the field. We covered a couple of acres with wildflowers, daisies, and a variety of others. Now, the rain has come, and we wait for the harvest. We're not sure how many will grow, but if they sprout, it will be a field of beauty. Our lives are much like this. God has sowed amazing things for the field of your life. So...

Anticipating Flight

Image
I've got some baby birds that have been growing on my front porch. My son sat on my porch swing and was dive-bombed by the momma bird. It was like the Hitchcock movie. The tweeting was making my son's dog excited, but this weekend, it was amped even higher. The baby birds are learning to fly. As we sat on the porch swing, we could hear the fluttering of tiny wings. In the next couple of weeks, the birds will find their confidence and take flight. The anticipation is that the time of growth will result in flight. This made me think of 1 Peter 1:6-9  “You rejoice in this, even though now for a short time, if necessary, you suffer grief in various trials so that the proven character of your faith—more valuable than gold which, though perishable, is refined by fire—may result in praise, glory, and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ. Though you have not seen him, you love him; though not seeing him now, you believe in him, and you rejoice with inexpressible and glorious joy, ...

No Room at the Inn (The Four Hundred Dollar Room)

As we were preparing for moving my daughter back home after four years of college, we got the news that my mother-in-law had a stroke. We were blessed that my husband was with her at the time of the stroke, so he was able to get her to the hospital immediately. She was treated and air-flighted to a larger hospital for treatment in Fayetteville. We drove over to visit before big move for my daughter the next day. After checking in at the hospital, it was already almost eleven at night. We decided it would be better to sleep in Fayetteville. My husband would visit the hospital early, and then we would drive down to move my daughter. We pulled into a packed parking lot of a nearby hotel, only to find no vacancy. We were informed that it was the University of Arkansas graduation weekend and a ball game. There were no hotel rooms in not only Fayetteville, but also surrounding towns. We walked to the neighboring hotel to find one room available. This was a tiny room with a full-sized ...

This Ache's For You

This past week has been very busy with working a church outreach at our local festival and then moving our daughter to a new house. As I was lugging her mattress to the moving trailer a thought occurred to me. I suddenly realized I was in the same shoes as my mother when she and my dad moved me from college . I am now the same age my mother was when she moved me at my daughter's age . I now realize the aches and pains that she hid as she willingly carried heavy box after box of my stuff without complaint . I can't tell you how many moves my parents helped with over the first few years during and after college. Yet I knew that one phone call, and they would be there. As we move closer to Mother's Day this weekend, don't forget to tell your mom thank you for all they've done. You can't truly know the sacrifice until you step into their shoes. Mom, thank you for all you've done. I wouldn't be where I'm at without you! Have a great week high-heeled wa...
